Imagine: a 10 year old patient comes into the doctors office and says she has cancer and needs chemotherapy. And imagine the doctor taking the patients word for it and prescribing powerful drugs on that first visit, because the patient feels she has cancer.
Later we find that not only were no tests or diagnostics done, but the chemo that was prescribed had never been approved by the FDA for cancer. Imagine that this chemo had serious lifelong side effects. Imagine that these side effects were minimized. Because the chemo was used off label, no one is legally liable for any harms the patient may suffer. After all, it’s experimental, and an informed consent was signed.
Now imagine that thousands of children were given chemo, with no diagnostic tests. Imagine further, that the patients began complaining that parts of their bodies were disturbing to them and asked the doctors to remove those healthy body parts. Imagine that the doctors all complied.
Now imagine that some of these children have now grown up, and discovered that they actually missed those body parts, they were really sick from the chemo, and they would never really be the same. Imagine that the doctors ignore these outliers, claiming that these cases were extremely rare.
Can you just picture the outrage? The lawsuits? The media coverage? Nope. Silence. As a matter of fact the practice is championed, and anyone who dares object faces possible serious real life consequences, such as losing their job.
Now open your eyes. It’s actually happening. It’s called “gender therapy”
One after another, detransitioners are coming forward to say that they were rushed into hormones and surgery after little to no actual therapy. They are telling us that they were immediately affirmed as transgender and given hormones and surgeries. Many of them have described being offered surgeries only months after starting on hormones. At the time, they wanted these treatments. They believed with all their hearts that they were “true trans”. Many now say that they wish someone had taken the time to try to dissuade them.
These individuals were all in their late teens to early twenties when they made these decisions that they now so deeply regret. Why is it that there are doctors, psychologists, educators, policy makers, and journalists that can’t seem to believe that it’s just possible that a large number of these kids are going to deeply regret being offered powerful drugs to halt their puberty, cross sex hormones that will bring on a variety of irreversible changes, and surgeries? If so many people are regretting decisions made at 18, what makes us think that a 10 year old is more qualified to make these decisions. We are told that “children know who they are”. Really? Why are we offering wholesale body remodels to children who aren’t old enough to drive a car?
We are hearing from physicians and therapists who are deeply troubled by this. Despite their reservations, they are being compelled to prescribe or refer these kids for treatment. They are being compelled to remain silent, or forfeit their careers. They are being told to rubber stamp drastic life altering treatments for kids, on demand.
We don’t practice any other area of medicine this way.
I am going to print this out and hand it to my daughter next week. Very thoughtful questioning of the state of our medicine today.
"Gender medicine" is an oxymoron. "Doctor, I'm 14. I've discovered I have feelings cancer, and I want you to cut off my breasts. Doc: What are we waiting for? Let's book the OR."
